Golden brass summit : Fiestamania!

Most of the time there is not much to do in the Serbian village of Guča, but for one week in August the village is turned upside down. Then 200,000 fans of brass band music will disturb the rural peace. During the Guča festival, the Golden Trumpet is awarded and that is a prestigious prize for the many wind chapels in Serbia. This DVD contains four films that try to capture the atmosphere of Guča. That means many orchestras with even more trumpets, dancing women and many drunken men. Don't expect a documentary about the festival's history. Director Ilija Stanković films from the free wrist and his registrations seem more like atmospheric images of an enthusiastic amateur filmmaker. To find out which orchestras are honking where on the DVD, you should always keep the inlay at hand. Better DVDs about Guča have been released (see also: kcd041). This DVD feels like you are viewing the vacation photos of a vague acquaintance. No doubt it was fun in Guča, but the DVD is only worth it if you have been there yourself. (PdK)
