Music that originated in the late seventies and early eighties, when synthesizers were used intensively for the first time to make pop music. The synthesizer music that takes disco and krautrock as a starting point is called electro. The early electro sound is at the basis of the later house version techno. At the beginning of the new millennium there is a revival of the old electro: the electroclash. The style variant in which synthesizers are used to colour in traditional pop songs is called synthipop. Bands such as Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran and Culture Club combined synthopop with fashionable clothing and make-up to create the substratum new romantic. Also synthopop got a big revival in the years zero with (mostly female) artists like Robyn, Lady Gaga and La Roux. more
