Met A Bigger Bang - een album dat moeiteloos aansloot bij hun beste werk uit de jaren zeventig - bliezen de prille zestigers van de Rolling Stones in 2005 zichzelf nieuwe energie in. Het leverde ook eindelijk weer nieuw live-repertoire op naast de gedoodverfde, decenniaoude hits, zo valt te horen op deze vier dvd-schijven boordevol live opnames, geschoten tijdens de A Bigger Bang wereldtournee. De Stones presenteren zich vooral als een hard werkende, no nonsens rock ‘n’ roll band: de stoïcijnse meester van de timing Charlie Watts, de twee met elkaar vergroeide (opvallend weinig sigaretten paffende) gitaristen Ron Wood en Keith Richard en de onuitputtelijke ceremoniemeester Mick Jagger. Na uren van live materiaal (met voorbeeldig beeld en geluid), een vlieg-op-de-muur-documentaire waarin alle bandleden uitgebreid aan het woord komen en veel bonusmateriaal (zoals een demonstratie slide-gitaar van Mick Jagger) weet je ook weer dat Rolling Stones nog steeds de beste rock ‘n’ roll band op aarde is.
